Evan Obert (133) and Jayden DeVilbiss (184) will represent Luther College at the 2014 NCAA III National Wrestling Championships that will take place March 14-15, at the US Cellular Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Both wrestlers will be making their second consecutive trip to the national finale.
Obert, who earned All-American honors last year placing eighth, qualified for the national meet after finishing second at the Central Regional. Obert was defeated by two-time national champion Kenny Anderson of Wartburg in the championship bout. Earlier in the year, Obert defeated Anderson 3-1 in sudden victory, snapping Anderson's 51-match win streak. Obert, who has been ranked in the top-10 at 133 all year, will take a record of 27-4 into the tournament.
For the second year in a row, DeVilbiss was crowned a Central Regional Champion. DeVilbiss posted four falls en route to his 2014 title. He enters the national tournament with a record of 28-9 that includes 18 falls. Last year, DeVilbiss missed earning All-American honors by one match.
A total of 180 participants will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championship by placing in the top-three in their respective weight classes at one of the six NCAA regional tournaments held on March 1 and 2. The complete seeded bracket will be available on NCAA.com on Monday, March 10. NCAA.com will video stream all sessions.
