Tennis
Quinn left his mark on Mahtomedi High School by representing the school in six state tennis tournaments, a record that still stands. He has a plan to leave his mark on the Luther campus as well, but not via tennis. “I am starting the first handball trend,” he says.
The sport, which is unique to the Midwest, was introduced to him by his family. “Playing it is more of a right of passage in my family than it is a sport.” Foley adds, “It is the perfect game; combat between two opponents, a ball, and a wall (in the simplest form). It honestly has really helped my tennis game since I started playing.”
One of Quinn's regular opponents is Jack Hedstrom, a chemistry professor here at Luther. “He is an excellent player and finds time in his day to come down to the courts and play.”
On the future of the sport here on campus Foley concludes, “I have taken the reins on the sport, and I will not be letting go until the courts are filled again, both students and Decorah residents.”
