The top two teams in the Iowa Conference squared off under the lights for the league's tournament championship tonight. After 110 minutes of play, the match ended in a 2-2 tie. Loras claimed the tournament championship and earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA III National Tournament by shootout 3-1.
In both the first and second halves the Duhawks and Norse traded goals. Loras struck first at 12:34, followed by a Ben Keller goal at 18:25. Loras retook the lead at 64:57 and six minutes later Keller scored his second goal of the night at 70:45.
Both teams had numerous chances through out the match. Loras goalkeeper Jacob Peterson was credited with seven saves, while Norse keeper Carson Davenport was credited with three.
In the shootout, the Duhawks went first and Javi Simon's attempt was good. Luther's Ahmed Osman missed. Loras' Mark Broderick missed his attempt, that was followed by a successful shot by Brunno Colon. The Duhawks took a 2-1 advantage on a make by Chris Alfaro. Aidan O'Discoll was stopped, followed by an Ike Bruns good attempt, that gave the Duhawks a 3-1 advantage. Bernado Marotti's attempt was no good, securing the shoot out victory for Loras.
The tie gives Luther an overall record of 11-4-5. Loras is now 13-5-1.
