A Jon Gednalske goal in the 105th minute secured a 4-3 double overtime victory over University of Dubuque tonight at Olyn Field in Dubuque.
Tailing Dubuque (2-0) 36 minutes into this game, Luther responded with three unanswered goals and held a (3-2) lead until the 83rd minute, when the Spartans Gonzalo Hernandez scored his second goal of the match leveling the score to (3-3). One minute later, Norse goalkeeper Tommy Breen stopped a Hernandez penalty kick, in what proved to be the difference in the game. Breen played the final 60:08 of this match and was credited with four saves.
Scoring Luther's first three goals were Lucas Beato (6) at 41:57, JW Slauson (6) at 49:06, and Clay Walker (3) at 66:18.
Gednalske's game winner was his seventh of the season and increased his goal total to 11.
Luther finishes the regular season schedule with an Iowa Conference mark of 5-2, 15-2-1 overall. Dubuque is now 4-2-1 in league play, 6-8-3 overall.
Luther will be the No. 3 seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament that will begin this Saturday. The Norse will host No. 6 seed Central College at 7:00 p.m.
