James Garcia-Prats Named NSCAA/Continental Tire Second Team All-American

It was announced today that Luther College senior midfielder, James Garcia-Prats, a 2010 graduate of Strake Jesuit High School, Houston, Texas, has been named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire Division III Soccer All-American.

The NSCAA recognized 41 All-Americans, 11 on the first team and 15 on the second and third teams. Garcia-Prats was a second team selection. He also received this award in 2011 and is now the only Luther College soccer player to be named an All-American twice during their careers.

“James is very deserving of this award and is being recognized because of the success of our team this year,” commented Luther Head Coach Chris Garcia-Prats. “He is a wonderful soccer player, but more importantly a caring and respected leader in our program on and off the field.”

During the 2013 campaign, the Norse captured a second Iowa Conference regular season championship and made a second appearance in the NCAA III National Tournament in the past three years (2011, 2013). The Norse finished the season with a record of 15-6-1 and a final national ranking of 22nd.

Garcia-Prats was credited with 17 points, thanks to 3 goals and a team best 11 assists. He ended his career making 79 appearances that included 68 starts. He was credited with 13 goals and 22 assists for 48 points.

Garcia-Prats also excelled in the classroom. He was a three-time Iowa Conference Fall Sports Academic honoree (3.50 GPA or higher on the 4.0 scale) and earlier this fall, he was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Division III Academic All-America team.

He is the son of Joe and Cathy Garcia-Prats of Houston, Texas.
