Head Coach

  • 1997 graduate of St. John's University - B.A
  • 1999 graduate of University of Iowa - M.S. Exercise Physiology
  • The 2017 campaign will be Steve's 13th year as Head Coach
  • Named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010
  • Has led the Norse to five Iowa Conference Championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010
  • Has also led the Norse to the NCAA III National Championships placing 6th in 2006, 8th in 2007, 26th in 2010, 24th in 2012, and 14th in 2013
  • Also serves as assistant track and field coach coaching the distant runners
  • Prior to taking over the Norse programs Steve spent two years as an assistant at Williams College (MA), where the women's team won the national championship in 2004 and the men's team finished in the top-10 in 2003 and 2004
  • From 2000-2002 he was the Head Men's Coach of cross country at Macalester College (MN)
  • While at St. John's University (MN) he ran both cross country and track and earned all-conference honors in track in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs

Austin Bauer

Assistant Coach

  • Second year as an assistant coach
  • 2014 graduate of Luther College
  • During his cross country career he was a three-time all-Iowa Conference performer
  • He also earned all-region honors three times
  • Ran in top seven on two Norse teams that qualified for the NCAA III National Championships
  • Earned all-conference at the indoor track meet as a senior in the 5,000
  • National qualifier outdoors in the 10,000 as a senior
  • Named to Iowa Conference Fall Sports and Spring Sports All-Academic Team three times for each season
  • Will also serve as an assistant coach for the track and field team
