The Luther College Norse claimed their second regular season Iowa Conference Championship in the last three years with a 78-61 victory over Wartburg College at the Regents Center. The Norse also earned the No. 1 seed for the Iowa Conference Tournament that begins next week. Luther will have a first round bye, then host the winner of the No. 5 Coe versus No. 4 Wartburg game on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
Luther closed out the first 20 minutes of play with an 11-4 run and held a 37-28 lead at the break. Wartburg never came closer than nine points in the second frame, as Luther torched the nets to the tune of 52 percent connecting on 14-of-27 attempts.
Luther had a balanced offensive attack as four players reached double figures. Zach Matos-Pritchard led the team with 14. Cale Austin and Tyler Wedemeier tallied 12, and John Androus finished with 11. Wedemeier produced his fifth consecutive double-double grabbing a game high 13 rebounds.
Drew Crawford and Mitchell Murphy led the Knights with 11 points apiece.
The win improved Luther to 11-3 in Iowa Conference play, 18-7 overall. Wartburg fell to 8-6, 13-11.
