For the second time in as many games Luther posted a overtime victory. Tonight, trailing by as many as 15 points, Luther battled back to defeat Central 72-66 in the Regents Center.
The victory also gives the Norse sole possession of first place, as Dubuque defeated Buena Vista 73-58. Buena Vista and Wartburg are now tied for second place at 8-3, while Luther sits atop the standings at 9-2. All three teams have already qualified for the six-team IIAC Tournament.
The Norse lit it up in the second half after shooting just 23 percent in the first 20 minutes of play. In the second half, the Norse were 15-of-26, that included a 7-of-9 performance from three-point land. Luther also won the battle of the boards 42-38.
Four Norse tallied double digits led by Tyler Wedemeier who recorded his eighth double-double of the season. Wedemeier scored 22 points and collected a career and game high 19 rebounds. Michael Crocker, who was 4-for-5 from behind the three-point line and finished with 15. Zach Matos-Pritchard and Nathan Meyer were next with 14 and 12 respectively.
Central's Jacob Winkler was the only player to reach double digits producing a game high 34.
Luther will travel to Buena Vista Saturday, Feb. 9. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Storm Lake. This game will be audio streamed.
