Renae Hartl, Luther College Athletics Director, has announced that Tim Schuring has accepted the position of assistant men’s basketball coach. He will also teach classes for the health and physical education department and will continue to operate the TNT5 Basketball Development program he founded in 2008.
“I am elated to be returning to Luther College and the men’s basketball program,” commented Schuring. “I can’t wait to get started.”
Schuring rejoins head coach Mark Franzen on the Luther sidelines. He was coach Franzen’s assistant from 2006-14. During their first stint together, the Norse won two Iowa Conference regular season championships (2011, 2013) and made one appearance in the NCAA III National Tournament (2011).
"We are excited to have Tim back,” stated Franzen. “Tim has been a championship level coach at both the high school and college levels. Cam Schuknecht did an outstanding job for us the last three seasons and we wish him well at Midland University."
Schuring returns to the Luther program with 27 years of coaching experience. Prior to his first stint with the Norse, he served as head coach at Dakota State University (SD) from 2001-05, and University of Saint Mary (KS) from 1998-2001. During his final season at USM, he led the Spires to a record of 24-9 and the round of 16 of the NAIA National Tournament. He has also served as an assistant coach at Iowa Wesleyan College from1996-98, and was the high school head coach for boys’ basketball at Blakesburg (IA), Seymour (IA), Savanna (IL) and Albia (IA).
