The 2012-13 Capital One Division III Academic All-District® Men’s Basketball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), has been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
Tyler Wedemeier, a 2009 graduate of West Central-Maynard High School, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 First-Team. He was one of five first-team honorees selected from a pool of 43 nominations. District 8 is comprised of 21 states (Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming) and Canada.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Wedemeier, a co-captain, is a four-year starter for the Norse. During his career he has scored over 1,000 points and grabbed over 600 rebounds. He has also set the school record for blocked shots with current career total of 222. Last year, he was named the Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Year. With six games remaining on the Iowa Conference regular season schedule, Wedemeier leads the Norse in scoring (16.1 ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg). He is shooting 61 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line.
Wedemeier is an elementary education major who has accumulated a grade point average of 3.47. He is the son of Kevin and Kendra Wedemeier of Westgate, Iowa.
