Luther moved into second place in the Iowa Conference standings after posting a 6-5 victory over Loras College this afternoon in Decorah. The Norse improved to 10-5 in league play, 20-9 overall.
The Norse did the majority of their damage in the third inning, scoring five runs on just two hits. Joe McKibben led-off with a single. The Norse loaded the bases when Jake Vogt was hit-by-a pitch and Jake Halverson drew a walk. Trent Athmann also drew a walk that scored McKibben. Bryce Hingst cleared the bases with a grand slam, his third home run of the season. Hinst also drove is Luther's first run in the first and finished with five RBI.
Tyler Boesel (5-2) was credited with the win after going 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Boesel allowed two runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out two. Cameron Reed was credited with a save after entering in the top of the ninth with one out and the tying run at second.
Luther returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 when it will host the University of Dubuque for a double header (2x9). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
