Luther hosted Northland College, a member of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), for the final non-conference double header of the year. The Norse split with the Jacks 1-2, 20-7.
In game one, a solid outing by starting pitcher Sean Westendorf was spoiled, as the Norse committed three errors that led to two unearned runs. The Jacks scored one run in the first and one in the second. Westendorf allowed just five hits, walked three and struck out four.
Joe Silversmith drove in the lone Norse run with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Jake Vogt, who led-off the inning with a single to left field.
The nightcap saw Luther explode for 20 runs on 18 hits. The Norse scored in every frame included posting an eight in the fourth inning.
Spencer Olson, who got the start in center field, led the attack going 4-for-4, scoring three times and driving in four runs. Vogt, Kelby Johnson, Joe Silversmith and Max Uetz all tallied two hits. Vogt and Johnson drove in three runs each and Silversmith was credited with two RBI. Luke Johnson also drove in two runs and scored twice.
Joey Cardamon (5-1) was credited with the win. Cardamon allowed five runs on three hits, walked four and struck out four.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 18-13. The Norse will return to Iowa Conference play this Tuesday, April 25, when they will travel to league leading University of Dubuque (12-3, 18-12). This twin bill is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
