Luther and Simpson split the first two games of their four-game series with the Norse winning game one 4-3 and the Storm winning the nightcap 4-2.
Eric Pittman drove in the game winner in the bottom of the sixth in game one, beating out what looked like a routine double play. Pittman dove into first and was called safe, while Aldon Severson scored. Severson led off the inning hit by a pitch.
The Norse took a 3-2 lead, scoring all three runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to four hits, three of which were doubles by Pittman, David Lowe and Carlos Pineda.
Alec Knop went the distance on the mound. Knop allowed three runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out three. Knop is now 5-1 with an ERA of 2.20.
Teddy Klingsporn and Nate Whitham split time on the mound. Klingsporn allowed three unearned runs on three hits, walked four and struck out three in 4 1/3 innings of work. Whitham allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out one in 4 2/3 innings.
The split gives Luther a league record of 5-13, 11-17 overall. Simpson is 7-13 in the IIAC, 14-16 overall.
The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow. The double header will begin at Noon.
