Luther traveled to the Minneapolis Metrodome for its season opening double header against Macalester College. The Norse swept the Scots 2-1 (8), 4-1.
In game one, Matt Larson drove in the game winner with a bunt single that scored Austen Graham in the top half of the eighth. Alex Byom was credited with the win throwing four scoreless innings. Aldon Severson was the only player for either team to produce multiple hits. Severson was 2-for-3 that included a double in the fifth. Andrew Nelson drove in the first run of the season with a double to right field in the second.
Mitch Knippenberg drove in two of the runs with a double to left center field. Alec Knop allowed one run of five hits and struck out six en route to his first win of the season.
Luther (2-0) will return to action in three weeks when it will travel to Tucson, Ariz., March 23-27 for its annual spring trip. the Norse will play six games in six days before heading home to begin Iowa Conference play at Buena Vista University March 29-30.
