After being rained out earlier in the week, Luther and Hamline University played each other in what would have been Luther's day off during its spring trip to Tucson, Arizona.
In a seesaw battle, Luther prevailed 16-14. Hamline held a 6-1 lead after three innings, only to see the Norse retake the lead 14-7 after six. The Pipers tied the game scoring seven runs in the top of seventh. In the bottom of the eighth, Chris Reynolds drove in two runs with a triple that secured the victory.
Jared Berlage picked up his first career victory throwing 1 1/3 innings in relief including a scoreless eighth frame.
Augie Lindmark picked up the save in the ninth. After giving up consecutive hits to start the inning, Lindmark struck out the next batter, followed by a 5-4-3 double play.
Leading the Norse offensive attack was Ryan Bahnemann who was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Andrew Nelson scored twice and also tallied 3 RBI with a 3-for-6 effort at the plate. Matt Larson was 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in 2 RBI.
Luther has one game on the schedule tomorrow against Nebraska Wesleyan University. The Norse will enter this contest with a record of 3-5.
