The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has announced that Alec Knop and Aldon Severson have been named the league's pitcher and position player Performers of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 31, 2013.
Knop was named the Pitcher of the Week. He appeared in three games last week, totaling two saves and eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He threw one inning in a 9-3 loss to Williams on March 27, walking one and striking out one. Knop then pitched 2 1/3 innings in two separate games against Buena Vista, recording a save in each contest. In his first appearance against the Beavers on March 29, he allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three in a 4-1 win. The following day, Knop scattered three hits and three walks while striking out four. The Norse took three of four in the series.
Severson, a sophomore first baseman, was named the Position Player of the Week, Severson batted .529 with nine hits in 17 at-bats in six games last week. He drove in five, drew four walks, scored two runs and was hit by a pitch in that same span. In Luther's four-game weekend series at Buena Vista, Severson was 7-of-13 with two hits in each of the three Norse victories. Additionally, Severson committted only one error in 51 chances in the field (48 putouts, 2 assists, 1 error).
