Ultimate Frisbee Camp

Over the summer of 2017, Luther's ultimate frisbee teams worked together to host a summer camp for high school students. We hosted over 20 students for a weekend at Luther, teaching them more about ultimate, helping them improve their skills, and showing them around campus. The camp was very well received, and we had a great time putting it together, so we decided to make it an annual event. Here is the information for the 2018 camp:

Full Resident (3 nights, 8 meals included) $175
Partial Resident (arriving Friday, 2 nights, 7 meals included): $155
Commuter: (no nights, 5 meals included): $145

NOTE: Campers MUST provide a Health Form and proof of health insurance (photocopy of insurance card) to Luther College at or before check-in to participate in our camp.

Camp Format

Full Resident campers may arrive at Luther on Thursday, June 21st in the evening and stay in on-campus housing in the residence halls. Those arriving Thursday night will have a chance to join in on informal activities with other campers, as well as members of LUFDA and Freya, beginning around 7:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, with drills beginning at 10:15 a.m. Informal campus tours, hosted by our student counselors, will be offered beginning at 8:30 a.m. (parents are welcome to attend tours if they'd like!) Camp activities will conclude at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 24th.

At the completion of camp, we will showcase your skills during our Ultimate Championship Game, starting at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 24. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Camp Staff

Joe (DJ) Simonelli: Joe started his ultimate career in 2008 when he helped to found the ultimate club at Neuqua Valley High School in the Chicago area. In 2010, he was co-captain of the Chicago area's first ever YCC team, and started playing club Ultimate by 2011 with Chicago Haymaker. During his time at Luther College, he played on LUFDA for four years and attended DI college nationals twice, in 2012 & 2013. In the summer of 2013 he played in the AUDL with the Minnesota Wind Chill as part of its inaugural roster, and in the summer of 2015 he attended his first club nationals playing for Sub-Zero. Joe also co-lead our first annual camp in the summer of 2017.

Hannah Garry: Hannah started playing ultimate as a high school freshman at South Minneapolis High School, and continued her ultimate career by playing for Freya while attending Luther from 2012 to 2016. She captaining the team her senior year, and appeared with the team at DIII Nationals in 2015 and 2016. After Luther, Hannah continued to play ultimate for a women's club team based out of the Twin Cities, Snap, for two seasons. In the spring of 2017 she had the opportunity to assist with coaching the girls varsity and JV teams from her alma matter, South High School.

Current players from Luther's men's and women's ultimate teams will also be present to help run the camp.

Housing and Meals

Campers stay in a comfortable, air-conditioned residence hall on Luther campus and eat in the Dahl Centennial Union dining hall. Current athletes from Luther's ultimate teams serve as camp counselors and provide full supervision and help direct all camp activities.  An athletic trainer will be on site for the entirety of the camp.  Medical services for campers are available through local clinics, as well as the emergency room at the Winneshiek Medical Center. Individual campers are responsible for any medication, and hospital and physician fees.

Luther College Sports Facilities

Regents Center indoor facilities include six tennis courts; a six-lane, 200-meter track; six full-sized basketball courts; 25-yard, eight-lane swimming pool; locker, training, and equipment rooms. The Legends Fitness for Life Center offers a strength and fitness facility with its own climbing wall. The outdoor facilities include 12 tennis courts, a cross country race course, fitness trails, and an all-weather track.
