Luther snapped a five-game losing streak defeating Crown College 99-96 in overtime this afternoon in St. Bonifacius, Minn. Luther's point production was its highest total since the Norse defeated Buena Vista University in Storm Lake 95-85 on Feb. 8, 2014.
With the score tied 84-84 at the end of regulation, Luther outscored Crown 15-12 in the extra frame. Ray Whitlock produced six of his career high 18 points in the extra five minutes of play. Spencer Sturges helped the cause at the free throw line going 4-for-4 en route to 10 points for the game.
Five Norse tallied double digits led by Jared Nicolaisen with 24. Christian Wright missed just three shots from the field the entire afternoon and tallied 17. Jadyn Torres came off the bench and was credited with a career high 11.
Luther shot 50.7 percent that included a 10-for-30 effort from behind the three-point line. The Norse were also 13-of-16 from the charity stripe.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 3-6, while Crown fell to 4-5.
Luther will return to action after finals next week on Friday, Dec. 15. The Norse will host Waldorf University at 6:00 p.m.
