Coe College scored the final five points in a close ballgame and defeated Luther 71-66 tonight in the Regents Center. The largest lead by either team was six points and the game was tied six times. Luther held a 33-30 advantage at halftime, but was outscored 41-33 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Ray Whitlock led the Norse attack matching his career high with 13 points. James Kappus also reached double digits with 11. Jared Nicolaisen, who dished out a career high 10 assists, was next with nine points.
Coe was led by Spencer Williams who led all scorers with 25 points. Williams missed just three shot the entire 14 minutes he played, going 11-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
The loss gives Luther an Iowa Conference mark of 0-3, 2-6 overall. Coe improved to 1-2 in league play, 3-5 overall.
Luther returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 9 when it will travel to Crown College, St. Bonifacius, Minn. Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
