Luther improved to 3-2 after defeating St. Mary's University (MN) 3-1 this evening in the Regents Center. The Norse jumped out to a 2-0 lead posting set victories of 25-15, 25-20. St. Mary's pulled to within one capturing the third set 25-21. Luther secured the victory with an impressive 25-16 win in set four.
Three Norse tallied double digits led by Anna Larson who pounded out a match high 19 kills. Larson, who was named all-tournament at the St. Mary's University Sugar Loaf Classic last weekend, posted an attack percentage of .245, and was also credited with 12 digs. Morgan Towne, who led all attackers with a .333 attack percentage, and Emma Veum both produced 11 kills. Towne also was credited with a match high three ace serves. Sam Sixta continued to play well dishing out 48 assists. With her efforts tonight she is averaging 10.3 assists per set. Natalie Cote led the defensive efforts with 19 digs.
St. Mary's was led by 2016 AVCA second team All-American Brandi Blattner with 10 kills. Sara Lind came in off the bench and was credited with nine and Linnaea Wallis tallied eight.
Luther returns to action this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9, when it will play in the UW-Whitewater Invitational.
