Preseason No. 23 Luther scored first and scored early, as the Norse posted their first win of the season, a 3-1 decision over St. Olaf College this afternoon in Northfield, Minn.
Ben Keller scored his first goal of the year and got the Norse on the board in the 16th minute assisted by Rafael Broseghini (1).
Tyler Pieper scored his second goal of the year four minutes later at 20:20 assisted by Keller (1).
The Oles lone goal came in the 28th minute, when Kyle Leemon found the back of the Norse net unassisted.
In the final 45 minutes of action, the two teams combined for a total of eight shots. Luther was credited with seven the St. Olaf one. The Norse completed the match holding an 18-2 advantage in this statistical category.
With the win, Luther now leads this series 15-11-2 that dates back to Oct. 27, 1990. The Norse have also won four of the last five matches in the series.
Up next, Luther continues its MIAC swing and plays at Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, Sept. 9. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
