No. 25 St. Catherine University defeated No. 3 Luther twice this afternoon and will advance to the NCAA III Super Regional round next weekend. St. Kate's who lost their first game of the Decorah, Iowa Regional 1-0 to University of Chicago, won four consecutive games en route to the regional title.
In the first championship game this afternoon, the Wildcats Krista Flugstad, who was named Co-Most Outstanding Player of the regional, allowed one run on seven hits and held the Norse bats in check. At one point she retired 12 Norse batters in a row. She also drove in what proved to be the game winner with an RBI double in the sixth.
In the second championship game, Luther was trailing 4-1 heading into its last at-bat in the top of the seventh. The Norse scored four runs on five hits and held a 5-4 lead and were three outs away from claiming the regional title. St. Catherine's answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to secure the come-from-behind victory.
Luther ends its season with an overall record of 41-5.
