No. 3 Luther (41-3) advanced to the championship game of the Decorah, Iowa Regional after defeating University of Chicago 6-0. The victory was Luther's 19th win in a row.
The Norse scored five runs in the first frame highlighted by a Bailey Hocker three-run, two-out home run over the right field fence. The Norse added an insurance run in the seventh inning on an Anna Strien RBI double that scored Sara Nelson. Strien's hit was her 67th of the season, a new single season school record. Strien was also credited with four defensive assists and has now tallied 110 that is also a new single season school record.
Nelson was 3-for-4 and scored twice and Hocker finished the game 2-for-3.
Annie Versnik and Amanda Witzlib combined for a three-hit shutout. Versnik (18-1) was credited with the win throwing five complete and striking out one. Wiztlib threw the final two innings and struck out one. The duo allowed just five balls out of the infield.
Luther will face No. 25 St. Catherine University (34-12) tomorrow in the championship game scheduled to begin at Noon. This is a rematch of last year's regional final. A year ago, St. Kate's forced a second championship game defeating Luther 3-0. The Norse advanced to the Super Regional Round defeating the Wildcats 3-1 in the nightcap.
