For the first time since 2005, Luther posted six wins, defeating Loras 35-21 in the season finale for both teams. The victory gave the Norse an overall record of 6-4, 5-3 in the Iowa Conference. Luther finished third in the league standings, its highest conference finish since 2005.
In the first half, Brady Letney scored on touchdown runs of two, one and 22 yards that gave Luther a 21-0 lead with 3:41 left in the second quarter. Loras ended the first half trailing by one touchdown, after scoring on a 25-yard screen pass and a 37-yard fumble recovery, in the final 53 seconds of the second quarter.
Loras tied the score 21-21, scoring on their first possession of the third frame, after stopping Luther on fourth down on the Duhawks 36. The Norse answered and retook the lead 28-21 with 1:10 left in the third quarter. Letney connected with Justin Montgomery on a five-yard pass that capped off a 14 play, 80-yard drive that ate up 7:42 on the clock.
After holding Loras on fourth and goal, Luther put together an 18-play, 97-yard drive that was ended with an Anthony Hollingshed 12-yard touchdown. The drive took 10:24 off the clock and was the final scoring play of the afternoon.
Luther finished the day with 519 yards of total offense, with 357 coming on the ground. The Norse also dominated the time of possession 44:01 to the Duhawks 15:59.
Senior quarterback Brady Letney completed a career high 15 passes for 162 yards and one touchdown. He led the Norse rushing attack with 138 yards on 28 carries and three touchdowns.
Senior running back Nick Slavens also went over the century mark with 101 yards on 11 carries, while Hollingshed tallied 96 yards on 18 carries.
Justin Montgomery was credited with a career high 10 receptions for 109 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, the Norse held the Duhawks to 242 yards of total offense, 217 yards below their season average.
