Luther improved to 7-7 in Iowa Conference play after winning the first two games of the three-game series at Simpson. The Norse won game one 13-8 and the nightcap that started at 9:11 p.m. 14-3 in seven innings.
In game one, Luther exploded for seven runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and three in the ninth to secure the win. Luther tallied 14 hits with multiple hits coming off the bats of Jake Vogt (2-6), Trent Athmann (2-4), Joe Silversmith (2-4), Cody Reimer (2-5) and Jake Halverson (2-5). Both Silversmith and Halverson drove in two runs, while Vogt, Athmann, Mitch Bruggers and Joey Sullivan were all credited with one RBI.
Teddy Klingsporn (5-0) was credited with the win. Klingsporn allowed seven runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out 10. Colin Coffey was credited with the save. Coffey struck out five and allowed one run on five hits in four innings of work.
Game two saw the Norse score 14 runs on 14 hits. In a repeat of game one, Luther opened this game up with seven runs in the second frame. The Norse also posted a crooked number on the board in the third and seventh.
Athmann and Halverson continued to swing hot bats. Athmann went 2-for-4 and Halverson went 2-for-3. Mitch Bruggers drove in two runs thanks to a 2-for-4 effort.
Cody Reimer (3-1) went the distance on the mound. He allowed three runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out nine.
With the sweep, Luther is now 14-11 overall. Weather permitting, game three is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
