No. 4 Luther tallied 27 runs on 31 hits and swept Wartburg 15-4 (6) and 12-6 this afternoon in Decorah. Sixteen of the hits went for extra bases.
Alise Miller had a monster afternoon. Miller hit four home runs and finished the afternoon going 4-for-6 and driving in nine RBI. Miller hit two two-run home runs in back-to-back innings in game one, and hit a three-run blast and two-run shot in game two.
Katie Wieland also hit the ball well. Wieland was 6-for-9 that included a walk-off grand slam in game one and a three-run home run in game two. She also tallied two doubles.
Designated player Anna Strien was 4-for-6 with three RBI, while lead-off batter Miranda McCay went 3-for-6 with four RBI. Ashley Burrows was 5-for-8 with two RBI and Lindsey Uphoff was 4-for-7 and scored twice.
The Norse fell behind in game one 4-0 before running off 15 unanswered runs en route to the victory. In game two, Luther opened the game up putting nine runs on the board in the third frame.
Amanda Witzlib (12-1) was credited with the win in game one. Witzlib allowed four runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out six in six innings of work.
In game two, Annie Versnik (7-0) pitched the final 3 1/3 innings in relief of Topanga Skiles and was credited with the victory. Versnik allowed one run on five hits, while Skiles allowed five runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.
The two wins gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 6-0, 27-1 overall. Wartburg fell to 0-6 in league play, 19-12 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday when it will host No. 22 Simpson College at 2:00 p.m.
