Junior Clare Slagel completed the 2015 NCAA III National Swimming & Diving Championships as a two-time All-American. The national swimming and diving championships were held at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.
On Friday, March 20, Slagel captured the national championship in the 100 backstroke. Slagel touched the wall clocked at 54.57. Madeline Lovrensky of LaVerne was second (54.73) and Emma Paulson of St. Thomas was third (54.86).
This is Slagel's second national title. Last year she won the 200 backstroke. This does mark the third time she has earned All-America honors in the 100 backstroke. She placed 4th (2013) and 3rd (2014).
On Saturday, Slagel placed third in the 200 backstroke clocked at 1:57.33, breaking her own school record. Olivia Jackson of Williams and her teammate Kathie Bennett placed first and second respectively. Jackson touched the wall at 1:57.24 and Bennett was clocked at 1:57.25.
With her two All-American honors, Slagel is now a seven-time All-American during her career.
