Day One Recap - After the first day of competition of the Grinnell Invitational, Luther is in fourth place with 407 points. Nebraska Omaha leads the 10-team field with 514 points, followed by Grinnell with 471 and Gustavus Adolphus with 442.
Clare Slagel led the individual efforts placing first in the 100 backstroke, setting a new pool record and posting a B-Cut qualifying mark of 57.40. Slagel also placed second in the 100 freestyle (54.30).
Jackie Hughes posted a top-three finish placing third in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.75). Hughes also advanced to the A-Finals of the 200 IM placing 9th (2:17.26).
Advancing to the A-Finals and where they placed included Pilar Dritz in the 100 backstroke (8th - 1:03.46) and 200 IM (6th - 2:16.02); Sam Kraft (4th - 5:18.57), Elizabeth Reed (7th - 5:26.00) and Megan Jelinski (10th - 5:33.75) all in the 500 freestyle.
Three relays were contested today and the Norse 800 freestyle relay won the event with a time of 8:01.22. The Norse also placed third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.63) and 400 medley relay (4:07.03)
Day Two Recap - Following today's competition Luther remained in fourth place posting a point total of 788. U of Nebraska-Omaha won the team title with 1067, followed by Gustavus Adolphus with 922.
Individually, Clare Slagel and Jackie Hughes recorded gold medal performances in the 200 freestyle (1:55.85) and 1650 freestyle (18:32.17) respectively. Slagel also placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:07.01) and Hughes placed third in the 400 IM (4:45.51).
Also advancing to the A-Finals and their finish included Pilar Dritz in the 400 IM (5th) and 200 backstroke (8th); Sam Kraft in the 200 freestyle (8th); Lexi Scharmer in the 100 fly (5th); Katie Storey in the 100 breaststroke (10th); Leah Barkema in the 50 freestyle (4th); Elizabeth Reed in the 1650 freestyle (2nd); Sofie Wallock in the 1650 freestyle (4th).
The Norse will host Coe College one week from today for the final home dual of the season. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
