Central College defeated Luther 47-7 this afternoon in front of a Homecoming crowd. Central turned three of Luther's four lost fumbles into touchdowns and also held the Norse to a season low 217 yards rushing. The Norse entered this game ranked second in the NCAA III averaging 419 yards per game.
Alex Hain scored Luther's lone touchdown, reaching the end zone on a 10-yard run with 1:18 left in the first half. Hain finished the afternoon with 41 yards on four carries. JJ Sirios led the Norse attack with 51 yards on 18 carries, while Cooper Nelson was credited with 48 yards on 7 attempts. Mark Bradley was next with 26 yards on six carries.
Defensively, Darren Hill led all tacklers with 11. Matt Schiedle and Aric Elton were next with nine and eight respectively. The Dutch racked up 404 yards of total offense that included 226 on the ground and 178 in the air.
Dutch running back Josh Osborn tallied 115 yards and scored three times on runs of nine, one and 10 yards. Quarterback Aaron Eiseler connected on 16-of-23 attempts for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
The loss was the first of the season for the Norse who are 1-1 in the Iowa Conference 4-1 overall. Central improved to 1-1 in the IIAC, 3-2 overall.
Luther travels to Buena Vista University one week from today. This game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
