The Luther men’s tennis team got back on the winning track with a 9-0 sweep of St. Olaf at the Owatonna Tennis & Fitness Center in Owatonna, Minn. Eight players picked up victories for the Norse on the day, tallying Luther’s second sweep of the season.
Torstein Jystad and Isaiah Mayerchak came through with an (8-1) victory at No. 3 doubles, defeating Nico Gibb and Michael Schroeder to put the Norse on the board. Ramesh Karki and Quinn Foley were next off the court, cruising to an (8-2) win over Joey Kronzer and Ben Carlson at No. 1. James Ayer and Kyle Appel withstood a late push from Matt Christenson and Keenan Gladd-Brown at No. 2, posting an (8-6) victory to give Luther a 3-0 advantage.
Jystad earned his second point of the day with a (6-2, 6-3) win against Carlson at No. 2 singles while Appel clinched the victory for the Norse with a (6-3, 6-1) decision over Gibb at the No. 3 slot. Karki also won for the second time against the Oles, holding off Kronzer (6-1, 6-4) at No. 1. Sam Cychosz put together a dominating performance at No. 6, dispatching Misha Baker (6-1, 6-0) to make it 7-0. Mayerchak closed out a (6-1, 7-5) win over Schroeder at No. 5, and Matt Bellio defeated Christensen (6-2, 6-4) to finish out the match.
Luther improves to 8-3 overall this season. The Norse will travel to Janesville, Wis., to face UW-Whitewater on Friday, March 7.
