Luther dropped a twin bill to Wartburg this afternoon for its home opener 2-1, 13-10.
In game one, Wartburg managed just one hit off of Norse starter Teddy Klingsporn (1-1). The Knights scored a run in the first and the game winner in the sixth.
David Lowe scored Luther's lone run in the bottom of the second, on a Carlos Pineda double. Lowe reached base with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Andy Briggs and Eric Pittman, Czenvic Rojer drove in Brigs with a double. A walk by Lowe filled the bases. Aldon Severson capped off the inning with a grand slam home run.
Wartburg answered in the top of the eighth, scoring eight runs on eight hits in what proved to be the deciding inning of the game.
Briggs (2-4), Rojer (2-3), Lowe (2-4), and Severson (2-4) combined for eight of Luther's 13 hits.
The two losses drops Luther's Iowa Conference record to 3-9, 9-13 overall. Wartburg improved to 9-3 in league play, 15-9 overall.
The Norse will travel to Central College this Friday and Saturday, April 11-12 for a four game series. Both days action will begin at 1:00 p.m.
