The Norse wrapped up their spring trip to Tucson, Arizona splitting the final two games of the four-game Iowa Conference series with No. 25 Buena Vista University. The Beavers won today's first game 6-0 and the Norse won the nightcap 10-9.
In game one, the Beavers Scott Harris threw a four-hit shut out. Harris faced 26 batters, walked one and struck out eight.
Carlos Pineda tallied two of the four hits going 2-for-3, while Eric Pittman and Dakotah Rostad each had one.
Joel Martin hit a two-run walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth of game two that gave the Norse a 10-9 come-from-behind victory. The Norse scored four runs in the final frame, thanks three hits and a Buena Vista error, its sixth of the game.
Luther tallied 11 hits. Matt Larson, Czenvic Rojer and Pineda all had multiple hits. Larson was 3-for-4, Rojer was 2-for-4 and Pineda was 2-for-5.
Ben Voss (2-1) was credited with the win. Voss retired all three batters her faced in the top of the seventh.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 8-6, 2-2 in the Iowa Conference. Buena Vista is also 2-2 in league action, 13-3 overall.
The Norse will continue Iowa Conference action on Tuesday, April 1 when they will travel to Wartburg College for a double header that will begin at 3:30 p.m. These games were originally scheduled to be played in Decorah, but were moved to Waverly due to poor field conditions. The two teams will wrap up this series in Decorah on Tuesday, April 8 with a double header that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
