Luther and No. 25 Buena Vista University kicked off the Iowa Conference schedule in Tucson, Arizona at the Kino Sports Complex. The Norse and Beavers split the first two games of the four-game series.

In game one, Alec Knop threw a complete game two-hit shut out leading the Norse to a 1-0 victory. Knop faced 26 batters, walked four and struck out eight. 

Czenvic Rojer, who had three of Luther's five hits, drove in the lone run in the first. Andy Briggs lead-off the inning with a triple.

In game two, Buena Vista broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the top of the sixth en route to a 6-3 victory. 

The Norse scored two in the first and one in the second. Rojer and Mitch Knippenberg drove in runs in the first, while Joel Martin drove in a run in the second. Eric Pittman (2-3) and Martin (2-3) produced multiple hit outings. 

Matt McKinney was credited with the loss. McKinney allowed five runs on six hits, walked five and struck out two in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Box Score

The split gives Luther an overall record of 7-5. Buena Vista is now 12-2.

The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow with a double header that will begin at Noon CT.
