Luther returned to action for the first time in 17 days and posted a 63-61 road victory over UW-River Falls. This was the second time these two teams have met this season. In the season opener for both teams, the Norse defeated the Falcons 80-75 on Nov. 15 at the UW-Eau Claire Tip-Off Classic.
After shooting 52 percent in the first half the Norse held a 38-33 halftime lead. Both teams found it difficult to score in the second frame as the Norse shot 23 percent and the Falcons shot 26 percent. Trailing by as many as 10 points early in the second half, the Falcons battled back and tied the game at 61-61 with 59 ticks left on the clock. Two free throws by Tayler Jenks with 23 seconds remaining secured the victory.
Meagan Koepnick led a scorers with 20 points. Koepnick was 6-of-11 that included a 3-of-6 performance from behind the three-point line. Jenks and Taylor Johnson also tallied double digits with 12 points each.
The victory gives Luther an overall record of 8-2, while River Falls fell to 3-8.
The Norse will wrap up their non-conference schedule on Saturday, Jan. 4, when they will host Mount Mercy University. Tip-off is scheduled in the Regents Center at 2:00 p.m.
