University of Dubuque handed Luther its first loss in league play, defeating the Norse 76-73 in overtime.
The Spartans battled back from deficits of 15 points in the first half and 13 in the second, to send the game into the extra frame. The Spartans Chris Frazier, who scored a game high 24 points, made three of his six three-pointers in the final 20 seconds of regulation, that leveled the score at 70-70 after 40 minutes of play.
Tyler Wedemeier recorded a double-double and also became the 22nd player in Luther history to score his 1,000th career point. Wedemeier tallied 15 points and collected 13 rebounds.
Aaron Huber was the only other Norse player to reach double digits. Huber scored a career high 17.
The loss snapped Luther's five game win streak and sets up an Iowa Conference showdown for first place at Wartburg College Wednesday night. Wartburg also lost for the first time tonight at Loras by a score of 72-64. Luther and Loras will enter Wednesday's game atop the IIAC standings with records of 5-1. Tip-off will take place at 8:00 p.m.
Luther and Dubuque will reload in Decorah five days from today on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
