Student Recruitment

Recruitment of prospective student-athletes is essential to any successful athletic program, and at Luther College, we are committed to recruiting student-athletes in a positive manner. Institutional staff members and/or representatives of the institutions’ athletics interest will make every attempt to provide prospective student-athletes with accurate and honest information about the college.

Institutional staff members and/or representatives of the institutions’ athletics interest are subject to the provisions established by the NCAA and IIAC. Consequently, the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete by Luther College or any representative of the institutions’ athletics interest in violation of the NCAA legislation, as acknowledged by the institution or established through the NCAA enforcement procedures, shall result in the student-athlete becoming ineligible to represent Luther College in intercollegiate athletics. Additionally, the NCAA has stated that a student-athlete is responsible for his or her involvement in a violation of NCAA regulations during the student’s recruitment, and involvement in a major violation, may cause the student to become permanently ineligible for intercollegiate competition. Institutional staff members and/or representatives of the institutions’ athletics interest found to be in violation of NCAA rules will be subject to disciplinary action.

It is imperative that all participants in the recruiting process understand the rules and regulations established by the NCAA. The recruiting principles and regulations are outlined in Article 13 in the NCAA Manual. Any questions or concerns about the recruitment process or regulations should be directed to the Compliance Officer at Luther College.

Additionally, all IIAC member institutions have affirmed that they shall not knowingly recruit students who are enrolled, registered, have initiated deferred admission, or have declared their intent, or submitted contractual deposits to other institutions unless the students initiate inquiries themselves or unless cooperation is sought from institutions that provide transfer programs. Additionally, conference institutions shall not knowingly offer financial aid packages to students who are committed to attend other institutions, unless the students initiate such inquiries.
