All language majors, minors, and others who intend to use their Spanish skills for professional purposes are required to have a language immersion experience.
For majors, this may be done with at least one semester abroad. For minors, although the semester abroad is also recommended, the immersion experience may be met with a Spanish course during January Term in an Hispanic country.
Those intending to teach, whether majors or minors, must spend at least one semester studying in an Hispanic country.
For most students, this overseas experience occurs during their junior year, and Luther provides a variety of international options. Luther students have also participated in programs in the following locations in the country of Spain:
In Latin America, Luther students have studied in:
- Cochabamba, Bolivia
- Lima, Peru
- Bogota, Colombia
- Cuenca, Ecuador
- San José, Costa Rica
- Guadalajara, Cuernavaca, Puebla, and Mexico City, Mexico
Because of the generosity of a Luther alumnus, there are scholarship funds to assist students who study in an Hispanic country.
