JD Davis ('15) Studies the Norwegian Philosophy of Incarceration

Social Work Major JD Davis ('15) got the opportunity to travel to Norway through the Imagine Fellowship program in June 2014. Greatly interested by the U.S. prison system, he used his month to travel abroad to Norway to compare Norway's prison system to that of the United States. By interviewing a variety of individuals and groups, Davis saw how different Norway's implementation of incarceration was.

The Imagine Fellowship selects ten incoming first-years each year that demonstrate a passion in creative and self-directed learning and their ability to serve others through this learning. It gives the chosen fellows the opportunity to freely pursue their personal interests for the sake of learning, contributing to the liberal arts education that students receive at Luther. To learn more about Davis' findings, read his article in Luther's magazine, titled "Researching incarceration and personal reformation."
