Program Philosophy

Program Goals

  1. Develop our student-athletes on and off the baseball field
  2. Provide our student-athletes with a memorable college baseball experience
  3. Continued success with our winning tradition

Keys to Player Development

  • Academics are monitored closely to ensure success in the classroom
  • Position-specific coaches ensure a player to coach ratio of 8:1
  • Small group and individual work (outside of practice setting) in the spring season
  • A unique four-year retention rate (the 2012 roster featured eight seniors)
  • Our off-season (baseball specific) workouts are designed and carried out by Luther College's head coach of strength and conditioning

The Experience

  • Our Fall Ball World Series is designed to evaluate our players and provide a competitive environment during the fall season (typically eight games per team)
  • Indoor practice facility that allows for live scrimmages with full infield play
  • Annual spring trip to Arizona or Florida to play top competition in former MLB spring training facilities (Tucson, Arizona in 2012 and 2013)
  • 40 game varsity schedule with 28 Iowa Conference games
  • 16-20 junior varsity games for continued player development
  • Alumni game every spring to cap off an alumni weekend during the conference season
  • Conference tournament held at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids
  • Numerous off the field events to promote team building and lifelong friendships
