1. Why does SASC offer tutoring?
We believe that student-to-student tutoring is a valuable service to students who want additional help in a course beyond that offered through conscientious study, regular course attendance, and conferences with professors. [Back to top]
2. How does tutoring work? If I sign up, what happens?
You agree to attend tutoring weekly for the semester. You sign a contract that stipulates you also agree to be a responsible class member (attend every class, submit all assignments; meet with the professor as needed, etc.). Tutoring works best when tutor and student meet consistently throughout the semester. [Back to top]
3. What if I don’t need weekly tutoring? I just need occasional help.
At this time, all tutoring is arranged on an weekly basis, with the exception of Organic Chemistry. Most of our tutoring sessions require a weekly commitment. But note that drop-in help sessions are offered by many departments. As always, you should meet with your professors when you have questions.

5. What courses are available for tutoring?

6. How much tutoring can I receive? How often can I meet with a tutor?
You can request tutoring in any course for which we offer tutoring. Ordinarily, you will be scheduled for 30-60 minutes of tutoring in a course per week. You may request additional time; requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, depending on resources and need. [Back to top]
7. What if you get too many requests and can’t fill them all because of limited resources? How do you choose who gets to be tutored?
We expect to be able to fill all requests in subjects in which tutors are available. It is to your advantage to request a tutor as early in the semester as you can. If we must prioritize, our decisions about who receives tutoring are based on these criteria:
1) Tutor availability
2) Order in which your request was submitted
3) Academic need
4.) Responsibility/preparedness in previous tutoring sessions [Back to top]
8. What happens if I CAN’T make a tutoring session?
We expect you to reschedule with a tutor at least 24 hour before a session. Rescheduling should be kept to a minimum. If you have two “no-shows” without rescheduling and without good reason, we will suspend your tutoring contract. [Back to top]
9. Why is this policy in place?
Often there are other students waiting to be assigned a tutor. When you fail to appear for an appointment, you are not only take valuable time away from your tutor, but you also prevent another student from receiving help. Please be considerate of your tutor's time and resources, and use your tutoring time effectively so that you can be successful. [Back to top]
