Upper Class Housing Options
Baker Village
Baker Village is designed to give groups of six students of the same sex the opportunity to live together as a peer group in townhouse-style housing in single and double rooms. The Baker Village application process takes place in February for the upcoming academic year.
Prairie Houses
The Prairie Houses provide groups of seven students of the same sex the opportunity to live together as a peer group in one of three houses on the edge of campus owned by the college. Houses have single, double and triple-occupancy rooms.The Prairie House application process takes place in February for the upcoming academic year.
College Apartments
College Apartments provide a more independent living environment for upper-class students while retaining campus connections. Six one-bedroom apartments with kitchens for two students of the same sex per apartment are available; the College Apartments with kitchens application process takes place in February for the upcoming academic year. Students may apply for triple-occupancy apartments (with no kitchen) in April.
Norby House
Newly renovated in the summer of 2009, Norby House is a two-story home located in a residential neighborhood within a short walk of the Luther campus. Norby House is a unique housing option for twenty-two female students. Three groups of six students are selected through an application process in April for the upcoming academic year; the remaining rooms will be available during regular room draw.
The Sustainability House is a two-story home located in a residential neighborhood within a few minutes walking distance of campus. The Sustainability House is a co-ed living-learning environment where eleven students reside in single, double and triple-occupancy rooms and share a dedication to an environmentally, socially, and fiscally sustainable lifestyle. An application and interview process takes place in February for the upcoming academic year.
Farwell co-ed eight-single-room cluster is located in the seventh floor center cluster. Eight single rooms, not defined by sex or gender, are available by application in February for the upcoming year.
College Apartments (606 and 608 Ridge Road)
College Apartments provide a more independent living environment for upper-class students while retaining campus connections. Fourteen triple-occupancy apartments with one bedroom are available by application in April. There are no kitchens in these units, so a full board plan is required.
Clusters (Dieseth and Farwell) and Suites (Dieseth, Miller and Olson)
The cluster and suite draw is designed to give upper-class students an opportunity to live with a group of their peers in rooms adjacent to each other located in Farwell, Dieseth, Miller or Olson .
Dieseth Clusters:
- Houses eight students in four adjacent double rooms
- Includes -14, -16, -18, -20 rooms on Dieseth floors 2-8
- Does not include valley view or corner rooms
Farwell Clusters:
- North and south clusters on floors 2-7 are available for groups of 13 students
- Six north clusters will be all male (13 students = six doubles and one single room)
- Six south clusters will be all female (13 students = six doubles and one single room)
- Up to four CENTER clusters (on floors 4, 5, 6, 7) will be co-educational by cluster. Co-ed cluster groups include10 students in five double rooms, (two rooms with students of one sex and three rooms with students of the opposite sex). The RA will occupy one single room. The other three single rooms in the cluster will be selected during single room draw, which will be held immediately after cluster and suite draw. Half the single rooms in the cluster will be male students and half female students. Co-educational clusters are open to senior and junior students ONLY.
- Seventh-floor center cluster is designated as a co-ed cluster with eight single rooms not defined by sex or gender. A RA will occupy the ninth single room. An application process takes place in February for the upcoming academic year
Dieseth and Miller Suites :
- Suites include two double rooms connected by a doorway between the rooms
- Movable furniture that can be arranged by the residents in the suite
- Two suites are located on each floor
Olson Suites:
- Suites include two double rooms separated by a common space shared by the four suite-mates
- Twelve suites in the east wing of Olson are available for groups of four women
- Six suites in the east wing of Olson are available for groups of four men
Single rooms:
Approximately 20 female and 17 male single rooms are available in Farwell, Larsen. This number does not include single rooms in Baker Village or any of the college-owned houses, or the Farwell co-ed eight-single-room cluster..
Double and Triple rooms:
Double rooms are available in Dieseth, Farwell, Larsen, Miller and Olson. There are 6 triples for women and 2 triples for men in Larsen. These are in addition to doubles and triples in Baker Village and the college-owned houses.
Wellness Floors
The Wellness floors are for students who want to create a healthy lifestyle and live in a community that promotes wellness. Residents that select this floor should be committed to living substance free. Resident Assistants on these floors will provide programs during the year based on the seven dimensions of the wellness wheel. No application is required, double rooms are located on first and second floors in Miller Hall.
Global Village Community
The Global Village Community is a living-learning community for all students who want to gain a greater understanding of global issues while exploring and celebrating difference. This residence community is for all who want to understand the complexities of the world by engaging their neighbors whether they are in the room next door or from countries around the world. No application is required, double rooms are located on fifth and sixth floors in Miller Hall.
Off-Campus Living
Luther College is a residential college; students should plan to live on campus for the entire time they are enrolled as a student. College policy states: “All students are required to live in college-owned housing unless married, 23 years of age, or commuting from their legal guardians’ homes.” Luther College recognizes some seniors desire to live off campus and make available a limited number of approvals each year through an application process in March.
Married Student and Family Apartments (604 Ridge Road)
Married students and students with children may not participate in the room draw process. There is a limited number of College Apartments for married students located on 604 Ridge Road. Apartments are issued first-come, first-served with priority going to returning occupants who are married and/or have children. These apartments are not available to traditional students. Contact the Residence Life Office to request an apartment.
