First-Year Immersion
Entering students may participate in off-campus immersion experience during the week prior to first-year student orientation. These excursions are designed to give new Luther students the opportunity to engage in experiential learning, reflect on the natural environment, and share in fellowship and conversation with an upper class Luther student and, in some instances, a Luther faculty or staff member.
The program is open to any student, but currently it can accommodate approximately fifty new students. Students may begin applying for the program in mid April, with notification of acceptance occurring in early June.
In 2009, forty-nine students participated in one of the following programs:
- The Boundary Waters Canoe Area (three groups)
- Superior Hiking Trail
- Canoeing the Upper Iowa River (two groups)
- Biking the Great River Trails
