Twin Cities Young Alumni to host 'Get Down, Give Back' Nov. 18
Twin Cities Young Alumni will host its third annual "Get Down, Give Back" scholarship benefit event Friday, Nov. 18 , 7 p.m. at Jax Café in Minneapolis.
The event is open to all alumni, parents and friends of Luther College.
Tickets are $50, including a $15 scholarship contribution. Register online at www.luther.edu/getdowngiveback.
The evening will begin with a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres and a chance to shop at the Luther "Book Shop." A program about Luther and the TCYA scholarship will be followed by a live auction and dance.
All net proceeds from the event will go to the scholarship fund.
"There are two things we aim to accomplish with 'Get Down, Give Back,'" event co-chair Chris Hubbs ('89) said. "First, we try to throw the best Luther alumni party of the year and second, we are raising money for the Young Alumni Scholarship fund."
The TCYA Scholarship fund was established in 2009 by Luther graduates Sue (Gilbertson) Boxrud ('03) and Jim Kowitz ('03). Inspired by the goals of Luther's "Transformed by the Journey" campaign, they created the scholarship fund in honor of the college's sesquicentennial celebration.
"[Boxrud and Kowitz] wanted to do something that would bring young Luther alumni together and raise money for a scholarship for Luther students," Hubbs said.
Since the first event in November 2009, over 500 people have attended and more than $34,000 has been raised for the TCYA scholarship fund. The scholarship was awarded for the first time this fall.
"It's our hope that future young alumni – today's students – will continue on in this legacy of giving back to Luther College," says Bethany (Bierman) Krepela ('95), who works with Twin Cities Luther alumni. "It makes a difference and is a lot of fun."
