David Gonzalez with the Poetic License Band
Friday, February 12
7:30 pm • CFL
At once cutting, reverential, and deeply insightful, Gonzalez' words resonate with a broad audience, while the music keeps hips swaying. City of Dreams is one of the season's best. — Hispanic Magazine
Storyteller, musician, poet, actor, writer, and music therapist David Gonzalez is a one-of-a-kind artist. In City of Dreams, Latin jazz meets spoken word in a production exploding with passion, intelligence, and mambo-flavored grooves. A quintet of Latin jazz musicians — the Poetic License Band — connects the rhythms of Afro-Cuban music, swing, modern jazz with Gonzalez's poetry and stories of cultural identity in contemporary American Latin culture. Gonzalez will also share pieces from Wounded Splendor, representing inspiration and stewardship of the natural world.
