Center Stage Series
How amazing that experiencing extraordinary artists can be an ordinary part of our lives in Northeast Iowa!
They become a part of our community dialog, identity, and transformation—opening up new creative connections between artist and audience, student and seeker, leader and observer.
It is through these connections that the experience of art is real as we laugh, gasp, and tap our toes together in the audience, and then individually capture what is personally meaningful. Together and apart, the arts experience stays with us as we go out the door into our community.
Our creative community inspires me to pursue a season each year that strives to make deep connections, offers innovative and compelling opportunities, and champions artist and audience journeys. In that vein, Professor Kubinek Meets the Symphony promises to be truly a one-of-a-kind performance this November. We’re among a few select venues for this specially commissioned Iowa piece on its premiere tour.
In 2011, Luther College celebrates its sesquicentennial, Transformed by the Journey. The Center Stage Series is proud to help celebrate the arts as a part of Luther’s mission and the ways that artists are inspired here! This season, Carrie Newcomer’s music will connect arts and service leadership; Nnenna Freelon will expand the Black History Conference; Cantus, with Erik Hopkins ’99, will sing of the immigrant experience; and Church Basement Ladies, produced by Curt Wollan ’73, will celebrate our Lutheran heritage in the funniest way possible!
