H.I.T.—High Intensity Tennis Camp

High Intensity Tennis camp is designed for players committed and dedicated to improving all aspects of their game. A strength coach teaches the players how to lift specifically for tennis. In addition, athletes will be taken through an intense footwork and agility traning in the evenings. Six hours of court time daily will push players in areas of point building, strategy, mental toughness, and more. Match play and competitive drills too!

Camp Director

Brian Huinker (USPTA certified) is in his 8th season with the Luther Men (159-69) and 34rd season with the Luther Women (42-20). The Luther Men's Tennis Team won back-to-back Iowa Conference Championships and advanced to the Round of 32 at the NCAA Tournament in 2007 and 2008. the Luther Women Finished the 2008 season with a school record 28 wins. Huinker was voted Iowa Conference Coach of the year in 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2008 and was named ITA Central Region Coach of the Year in 2007. Both teams were named Academic All-American in 2006, 2007, and 2008.

Huinker has been the director of tennis camps for five years and is a USPTA Certified Teaching Professional. Prior to coming to Luther College, Huinker was a teaching pro at Rochester Athletic Club in Rochester, Minnesota and the head tennis professional at Westfield Tennis Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Assistant Camp Director

Luther Olson is in his third season as the men's and women's assistant tennis coach. He is the former head men's and women's tennis coach at Buena Vista University, and for women's head coach at Stout. Coach Olson has 10 years of camp and tennis instruction experience.

Luther College Sports Facilities

Regents Center indoor facilities include six tennis courts; a six-lane, 200-meter track; six full-sized basketball courts; 25-yard, six-lane swimming pool; three racquetball courts; wrestling room; dance studio; and locker, training, and equipment rooms. The Legends Fitness for Life Center adds a strength and fitness facility with a climbing wall. The outdoor facilities include 12 tennis courts, a large field area, fitness trails, and an all-weather track.

Housing and Meals

Campers live in a comfortable, air-conditioned residence hall on the Luther campus and eat in the Centennial Union dining hall. Player-counselors provide full supervision and direct all camp activities. Medical services for campers are available through several local clinics, as well as the emergency room at the Winneshiek Medical Center. Individual campers are responsible for any medication, and hospital and physician fees.
