The Biology Department is housed in Sampson Hoffland Laboratories, which is the college’s newest (and LEED certified) building. This 64,000-square-foot facility contains 17 teaching labs, 21 faculty offices, and more than 4,800 square feet of study area. A special emphasis was placed on student/faculty research, and a significant amount of space was devoted to research laboratories and research support areas. The building also contains the Overholt Human Anatomy Laboratory, which allows for an in-depth study of human anatomy for students studying biology and other health sciences.
The psychology department is located in the newly renovated Valders Hall of Science. This facility contains a number of state-of-the-art teaching and laboratory facilities, including the Salsbury Animal Center and laboratories dedicated to the study of animal learning, cognition laboratory and stress psychophysiology, along with a data analysis center. In addition, the department maintains a 28-station networked computer lab dedicated solely to the computing needs of psychology students for class and research uses.
Luther's health and physical education departments is based in the Regents Center, which include six full-size indoor basketball courts; 20 regulation baskets; a 25-yard, six-lane indoor swimming pool; a 200-meter indoor track; three racquetball courts; a wrestling room; a dance studio; six tennis courts in areas that can also be used for basketball and volleyball; and locker, training, and equipment rooms. The facility also contains the Legends Fitness for Life Center, a 14,000-square-foot addition that features a complete array of cardiovascular-conditioning machines, a full range of free weights and weight machines, and a 30-foot rock climbing wall.
