Students to present and display results of research projects

May 2, 2012

Luther College students will present and display the results of their 2011-12 research and creative work on Friday, May 4, when the college hosts the Luther College Student Research Symposium.

Presentations and displays take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in various buildings across campus. All are open to the public with no charge for admission.

The Symposium's printed program and information about events will be available during the day in the lobby of the Center for Faith and Life and at the information desk in Dahl Centennial Union.

The Research Symposium will showcase some of the best examples of the scholarship, research and creative activity of students from academic disciplines across the college.

The day will start at 9 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall, celebrating the collaboration between faculty and students, and featuring two outstanding student projects to be presented to the community as the keynote addresses, followed by a chapel talk by Timothy Peter, Luther professor of music.

Throughout the day, concurrent Symposium sessions in multiple disciplines will feature oral presentations and performances.  A mid-afternoon session will be dedicated to poster presentations with opportunity for visitors to converse with the student researchers involved.

The Symposium day will conclude with an opera workshop performance, "Cosi fan tutte" and an original production from the theatre/dance department, "The Secret in the Wings." An innovative sound garden on the campus commons will follow the performances for a reflective end to a fulfilling day.

A comprehensive schedule is posted on the Luther College website at http://www.luther.edu/symposium/schedule.

The Student Research Symposium is an annual event that promises to be an inspiring demonstration of the breadth and depth of the vibrant intellectual life on the Luther campus.
