I am currently serving Luther College as Visiting Faculty in English and Education.
I am a Luther College alumna of 1975 with majors in English Education and Political Science. I studied for one year at the University of Durham, England, with Luther's IES Program, which whetted my lifelong appreciation for travel. I received my MA in Secondary Curriculum and Adolescent Literature from the University of Iowa.
I began my 34-year teaching career in public schools. The majority of my work has been in high school and middle school English, reading, writing, and literature. I've enjoyed designing and teaching Talented and Gifted programs, co-teaching Second Chance Reading for Struggling Adolescent Readers, enhancing anti-bullying programs, and instructing dual-credit College Writing courses—including online instruction.
My passions include directing drama, working with students transitioning through the ELL experience, and inclusion of Young Adult Literature in the classroom.
In our move to the beautiful hills of northeast Iowa, my husband and I have enjoyed the renewed opportunities to participate in the vibrant Luther community.
I've enjoyed teaching English 110—Introduction to College Writing, English 334-Young Adult Literature, Education 352 and 367—Advanced English Education Methods. It is my joy and passion to work with Luther students around strong writing, rich literature, and effective teaching.
