The Parents Room
While it may seem just like yesterday when you were moving your student into their residence hall, they are actually in the process of wrapping up their year at Luther. The residence halls will be closing for all students, except for those participating in commencement ceremonies, at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May
20th. Just as Residence Life plans the move-in process, we also have steps that need to be taken for an orderly and efficient move-out experience for your students. Before the start of final exams, Residence Life staff will hold floor meetings to cover closing procedures. Each resident will receive a brochure explaining the checkout procedures at the meeting.
Students should pack their belongings and make arrangements with their Resident Assistant (RA) to check out of their room following their last final exam. During the check-out appointment, the RA will review the condition and cleanliness of the room, complete the room condition form, and check in keys. Roommates should discuss ahead of time who will be cleaning the room and who will be responsible for any damages, etc. The check-out process is very important and students who do not check out formally with hall staff are subject to a $100 improper check-out fee. So encourage your student to take the time and check out with hall staff upon leaving for the summer.
The residence halls close for students participating in commencement on Sunday, May 24th at 6:00 PM. This can be a very busy day for the families of our graduating seniors. Encourage your student to take advantage of the four days between finishing finals and graduation day by packing items ahead of time.
Residence Life congratulates all of our parents and students for successfully completing the year. It has truly been a pleasure for the Residence Life staff this year getting to know all of our residents. Just a quick note - residence halls will open for returning students on Sunday, August 30, with Fall 2009 classes beginning on Wednesday, September 2nd.
